Volunteer Ranger Agreement
Thank you for choosing to dedicate some of your time as a Volunteer Ranger
We expect our volunteers to:
1. Adhere to the conditions of work listed below and work within their own levels of competence.
2. Maintain high standards of conduct and behaviour and to represent the organisation in a professional manner.
3. Attend relevant training and support sessions.
4. Work in a safe manner for their own protection and that of others, ensuring compliance with health and safety guidelines.
5. Work in a non-discriminatory manner in accordance with the organisation’s policies and to ensure that all colleagues feel included and welcome.
This agreement is binding in honour only and it is not intended to be a legally binding contract and may be cancelled at any time at the discretion of either party. Neither party intends any employment relationship to be created.
Conditions of Work:
1. Volunteers are responsible to the Parks and Countryside Team at all times. We do not have capacity to work with all groups so would ask that any issues/problems are raised with the relevant Countryside Ranger
2. Volunteers to wear steel toe-capped boots/all-weather clothing and use work gloves
3. Tools may be provided and appropriate training will be given in their use. Relevant Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as necessary. Volunteers may use certain mechanical equipment only once they have shown full competence to supervising staff and have/or been on the appropriate training course.
4. Volunteers will not be discriminated on grounds of sex, disability, religion, social, ethnic or cultural background.
5. Volunteers will refrain from using bad language and inappropriate behaviour whilst on Council property. Volunteers are representatives of Shropshire Council and must maintain high standards whilst volunteering.
6. Volunteers that compromise the safety of other volunteers, staff or members of the public or behave in an unacceptable manner will be asked to leave.
7. By signing this agreement you are giving permission for your emergency contact and medical details to be accessed by a member of staff or a fellow volunteer in an emergency situation.
8. Volunteers must only carry out jobs as agreed with the Parks and Countryside Team (or listed in the site management plan)
Insurance
Shropshire Council has Employers and Occupiers Liability Insurance. Volunteers working in an appropriate manner are covered for accident or damage to a third party. Shropshire Council also provides Personal Accident Insurance for all volunteers (policy details are available on request).
Agreement Grievance Procedure
In the event of a volunteer having a grievance, they should, in the first instance make this known to the member of staff to their Countryside Ranger
If the complaint is about that member of staff, or it is felt that they have not adequately dealt with the complaint, then the Parks & Countryside Sites Manager should be contacted (edward.andrews@shropshire.gov.uk)
Young people
Under 18s to be accompanied on work parties by an adult (parent/guardian)
