The demonstration kiln is located on the southern end of the Stables Education Block and was first used on Sat 5th April 2008. The second time was on 12th April 2008 and the photos below were taken at this second firing.
Detailed weighing of the wood, smokeless fuel ‘coal’ and limestone were made. The size of the lumps of rock were kept within reasonable, noted limits. Information about the weather and the temperature of the kiln as the burning continued were carefully recorded.
These observations were made to find the characteristics of this particular kiln. The yield of quicklime from the second firing was much better than the first.
